Marlborough Primary Pupils Explore Electricity at Hatch End High School

Posted on: 01/04/2025

Thirty enthusiastic Year 3 students from Marlborough Primary School had an electrifying experience during their visit to the Physics Department at Hatch End High School. The young learners participated in an engaging experiment, constructing fruit cells using everyday materials.

With the guidance of high school staff and students, the primary pupils used oranges and lemons, along with lead and copper electrodes, crocodile clips, and multimeters, to generate small amounts of electricity. Their excitement grew as they successfully powered light bulbs and LEDs, demonstrating the principles of electrochemical energy conversion.

This hands-on activity provided an excellent opportunity for the young scientists to explore the fundamentals of electricity in a fun and interactive way. The visit not only deepened their understanding of circuits and energy transfer but also sparked their curiosity about the world of physics.

To celebrate their teamwork and dedication, all students were awarded Science Excellence Tokens for working collaboratively and successfully accomplishing the mission objective.

Teachers from both schools praised the collaboration, highlighting how such experiences inspire young minds and nurture a love for science. The event was a fantastic example of how schools can work together to make learning exciting and memorable.
