Extend Programme - Visit to Harrow School
Posted on: 04/04/2025This week the Year 11 extend Programme students took a trip to Harrow School for an exciting presentation and look at the Schools Speech room gallery. The Old Speech Room was completed in 1820 and used as a space where boys could learn the art of public speaking. In 1976, it was converted into a Gallery - a safe repository for the School's distinguished collection of antiquities and fine art.
A professional curatorial team manages the collections in accordance with best museum practice under the direction of the Julia the Curator. Harrovians can learn about object handling, conservation, documentation and collections care; help to research, design, curate and advertise exhibitions.
“Visiting Harrow Boys School was an incredible experience, not only because of the school’s rich history but also due to the fascinating gallery of artifacts on display. The collection was truly amazing, offering a glimpse into the school’s long-standing traditions, notable alumni, and historical significance. Each artifact told a story, from old uniforms and books to historical documents and memorabilia such as one of Winston Churchills oil paintings, making it a captivating journey through time.
What made the visit even more special was the curator, Julia, who was exceptionally kind and knowledgeable. She guided us through the gallery with enthusiasm, sharing interesting anecdotes and details that brought the exhibits to life. Her passion for the school’s history was evident, and she took the time to answer all our questions with patience and warmth.” - Freddie
