Initial Teacher Training
Hatch End High School is a fantastic place to train and learn the craft of a teacher. We know that teachers are our most valuable resource, and we fully appreciate how much new entrants to the profession can bring to our school in terms of enthusiasm, creative thinking and drive.
The school has a long history of working in partnership with The Institute of Education and other Higher Education Institutions to deliver outstanding Initial Teacher Training programmes. We currently recruit candidates wishing to achieve Qualified Teacher Status via the nationally acclaimed TeachFirst programme but we can also support School Direct recruits through our strong links with the Harrow Collegiate Alliance.
Both are school-based programmes of teacher training which enable us to work collaboratively with Training Institutions and our partner schools to train teachers and future school leaders; ensuring that the training fits with our school ethos and equips participants to meet the needs of our students.
At Hatch End we work hard to create an environment in which our staff and pupils alike feel valued and supported and our We Care ethos extends into our Initial Teacher Training programmes.
We are working with in partnership with Teachfirst to deliver our ECF Programme for ECTs and all ECTs are given the time and space required to engage fully with the self-directed elements of the programme.
Our Teaching and Learning Leadership team have all worked with trainee teachers for many years and our mentors recognise the key role they play in supporting and challenging new entrants to the profession. They are skilled and knowledgeable practitioners themselves and we place strong emphasis on training mentors to ensure that they fully understand the programmes they are supporting and that they have the necessary skills set to mentor, support, challenge and coach the next generation of teachers.
