Wellbeing Week

Wellbeing week was a huge success and enjoyed by all, staff and students alike.

Following our whole staff training on Monday the Wellbeing Staff Committee treated all staff to a ‘Bag of Happiness’ which included personalised messages about the contribution each staff member makes to the whole school community. Also included were yummy treats and goodies; biscuits, chocolate, sweets, coffee sachet, pen, positive/motivational quote. We also held a mini staff raffle with prizes donated by our lovely SLT and from our local Waitrose, huge thank you to everyone who donated prizes as well as thanks you to Morrisons in Hatch End for supplying us with 250 pieces of fruit for staff to enjoy.

Each day sporting events were held during Break 1 and numerous students across all year groups took part in events including volleyball and tug-of-war. Sports Leaders planned and let the events which were hugely popular with students throughout the school.

The 6th form committee also asked each year group what they want to know more about in relation to wellbeing. Topics chosen by the students included how to cope with exam stress, how to help friends and family struggling with mental health & what anxiety and depression look like. We also included certain topics for all age groups such as the dangers of vaping, how to stay streetwise and safe and the dangerous effects of so-called ‘laughing gas’. Each morning the 6th for committee members attended the lower school assemblies and expertly delivered their presentations.

Compass workshops ran all day on Tuesday for Year 12 students. We had positive feedback including these quotes from 6th formers:

“Firstly, I just wanted to say that it was a great opportunity to have Compass over who conveyed their message very clearly and direct. We gained valuable educational insight into the consequences of drug use. What my peers and I personally found appropriate was the manner in which the speakers from Compass addressed the issue of substance and alcohol abuse and how to prevent deathly scenarios from occurring. They told us ways to reduce risk as most young and curious people will want to consume substances such as alcohol, so having been told the correct way of doing it gave us great knowledge on how to help someone in need and ourselves. It was perfect how the speaker was a young person who could talk to us from our perspective and what will be experiencing in the next step of our lives.” - Robert Anghel and Mo-Ali Mahmoud

"We found the session very information and we found about a lot about drug possession and use as well as the side effects. We now understand the risks of drug abuse and how they can be commonly used." - Andreea Cirstocea and Amariss Addy- Cornwell

We held a Bake Sale on Thursday and Friday and our lovely staff baked goods to sell. We had a wonderful donation from Wenzels who gave us 50 jam donuts and 60 fairy cakes which were extremely popular with our students! It was a wonderful event and we raised money for the Molly Rose Foundation who also attended our event and sold cakes they had made as well as merchandise. The students always love these sort of events and the 6th formers really enjoy helping out and selling baked goods.

On Friday we invited all staff and students to donate a £1 and ‘Wear Something Purple’ to show their support for Wellbeing and positive mental health. It was a wonderful end to a lovely week and huge thanks to absolutely everyone who donated in any way towards this special week.
