Artist of the month and the Christmas card design

A huge well done for all the entries for the Hatch End High School Christmas Card design competition 2024. We are pleased to announce that the winner is Ottilie in Year 7, who is also our artist of the month. There were so many great ideas, and a lot of effort put in by so many, that this year we have some extra prizes. Congratulations to Darshangi in Year 9 who was awarded a prize for the quality of her artwork, along with Xavier in Year 7 who was awarded a prize for depicting the essence of Christmas. We hope you enjoy spending your vouchers!

National Portrait Gallery Trip

On Monday 11th November, a group of our 6th form art students went to the National Portrait gallery. Our first visit since it's been reopened, we enjoyed seeing the wide range of portraits. We definitely came back inspired!

Primary School Workshops

It's always a pleasure to welcome other students to our school, particularly primary school students. This term we have been lucky to welcome Year 4 and 5 students from Weald Rise to take part in art and science workshops. We have been so impressed with their creativity and participation. We are looking forward to more sessions in the new year with a number of local schools.

Currently we still have a few spaces left for this academic year. If you are one of our local primary schools and are interested in visiting us for an hour session based on Art, Science, French or Spanish, please contact me, Mrs McGarvey, at mcgarvey@hatchend.harrow.sch.uk for more information.

2025 Grantham Climate Art Prize

Students aged 11 – 25 are invited to enter the 2025 Grantham Climate Art Prize by designing a mural to draw attention to the climate crisis. Two murals will be unveiled in 2025 at Imperial College London. Designs for the first mural – at the South Kensington campus – are now being sought.

DEAR Bookmark Design:

A huge well done to the Year 7 & 8 students that have submitted their DEAR bookmark designs, we've almost decided on the winners. There are some really high-quality designs, and it's a very hard choice to make, but we look forward to sharing the results in the next Newsletter.

Art club - School show: set design and prop making

Well done to those students that are attending art club, the numbers are growing and we're always on the lookout for more people that enjoy being creative. We're now well on our way with the accessories for 'Joseph' but we could still do with more help. Open to all year groups on Tuesdays break 2 and after school in T22 or at other times by arrangement with Mrs McGarvey.
