HIP Alumni Visit

On Monday 20th March 2023, the Hearing Impaired Provision (HIP) had two very special visitors. Janak and Paolo are HEHS Alumni who left in 1989 and were supported by the HIP Department.
Janak and Paolo spent some time in HIP with our students and reminisced about their time at Hatch End and how things have changed over the years. We heard what life was like at school without computers and smart phones, with less than half the number of students we currently have and everyone wearing only one uniform style - the current silver Year 8 version!
We also heard how life as a Deaf student has changed and how listening technology has evolved over the years. Janak and Paolo told us about all their teachers and, to their surprise, a teacher that they remember so fondly, Ms Dunford, still works at Hatch End and popped in to say hello!
Janak and Paolo inspired us with their stories of what happened after they left Hatch End. Janak had his own business and Paolo works as an Intelligence Officer. They reminded us that ‘Deaf and Disabled people can achieve anything - don’t take no for an answer!’
