Department News: Physical Education - Events & Team Achievements
Posted on: 22/02/2018This Girl Can Day
On Friday, 9th February the PE department hosted an event for all Girls in the school. This Girl Can is a national campaign supported by Sport England and the National Lottery to try to get as many females taking part in sport & physical activity on a regular basis. As a PE department, we gave all females at Hatch End the opportunity to take part in a range of different activities including: Self-Defence, a range of Fitness Classes, a Roller Disco, Dance Classes, and many more.
Cross Country
On January 18th, 13 students represented Hatch End High at the Borough Cross Country at Harrow School. They braved the cold, mud and rain, and raced to an excellent standard. Year 7 girls that took part were: Ola Syrek, Aimee Jones, Jathursne Rajamohan, Cuba Mitchell-Holbron, Hanaa Adams and Chyna Beezer-Reid. Minor boys were Johnny Kiely, George Veliche and Akeem Morgan with Tia Pilgrim, Abdel Zazai, Craig Green and Ma’kel Bazile all taking part in the Junior boys and girls races. Craig Green and Abdel Zazai were both placed in the top 25.
Netball
A great start to the year, with over 35 students from Years 7, 8 and 9 attending Netball Club. With the Year 8 and 9 Netball League starting just before half term and the Year 7 League starting the first week of March – we are looking forward to seeing what this season has in store for us.
Basketball
On Monday, 29th January, ten of our young and highly enthusiastic Year 7 students embarked on their first encounter of intra-school’s borough basketball. For many of them, this was in fact their first ever taste of competitive 5-a-side basketball being played on a full-sized basketball court. As with Hatch End tradition and sporting excellence within our school, these boys did not fail to disappoint and eventually ran out Year 7 Harrow Borough Champions. The highlight of the tournament was when we convincingly beat both Harrow High and Rooks Heath in the semis and finals, as both these schools have established Basketball academies set up within their extra-curricular programmes. Special thanks and awards to all
