Oxford Inspire Scholars
Posted on: 03/03/2025A cohort of Year 9 and 10 students have been selected for a Scholars Programme run by Oxford University. They attend several workshops run by our staff throughout the year and then are invited to visit Oxford University for the day and to attend a summer school there. Oxford University’s coordinator of Inspire scholars reported back that we have “lovely students.” This is what two of our students had to say after our recent day trip:

“I was very excited because we were going to one of the world's best universities- Oxford University. We visited one of the colleges there, Saint John's College. When we reached the university, we were given a small introduction to what a university is and their courses, and were provided with some snacks. They were very nice! Later on, we had a tour around the college. They toured us around the college's best places, like the church and the library. They also showed us their antique, but mind-blowing and beautiful architecture, which I was very eager to see. So, overall, the trip was awesome and very fun! I would also like to thank Mrs. Llewellyn, Mr. D Farrar, and all other staff in charge, who made the amazing experience possible."

"Recently most of the students on the Inspire Scholars program have gone on a trip to Oxford University, St Johns college. We started the day with a talk to introduce us to universities. This was where I was able to gain notes on the pad of paper that they had given us (alongside a lovely tote bag, pen, sticky notes and a water bottle).
After the talk we headed to the dining hall/canteen. Where the food was really nice, and I think that the only way to describe the dining room was that it looked very Harry Potter style.
After the lovely lunch Katy, the very nice lady who was with us the whole day, took us for a tour of St Johns. It a really inspiring place and many buildings that were where the accommodation was (I would probably get lost). Katy took us to the Chapel, where they do choirs and etc. The library was really cool in my opinion. They had a restricted section that as all the old books that were written in Latin and really old stuff in the basement such as Jane Austen's books.
At the end we spoke about whether or not AI can create real art, that was our critical thinking task which allowed us to think and gain knowledge.
I had a lovely time there. I really enjoyed it. Eloise Hammond said that the trip was amazing and beautiful, she said that we had lots of fun. Asma Miah says that it was a good experience going to an amazing university. She really enjoyed the society talks and tour. So thank you so much for all the people who organised the trip as we all enjoyed it."
