Black History & Diversity Week

Posted on: 07/11/2024

October is National Black History Month in the UK. We planned to run a range of assemblies, put up a range of posters and arranged some thematic lessons for October, all of which happened. In addition, we were pleased to receive some excellent ideas from the School Council who suggested two additional activities, both of which we adopted and proved to be a real success.

The canteen ran a Caribbean themed menu on Thursday 24th October, which the students had asked for several times, and this was a great success.

The students also asked that we repeated a decorated door competition idea, which ran for National Book Day last year with every tutor group and staff decorating their TUTOR/OFFICE doors to celebrate Black History. Students and staff made a great effort.

21st-25th October 2025 marked DIVERSITY WEEK set up to celebrate our diverse ethnicities within our community. Departments and students offered to run a range of events including PE running SPORTS from around the world as taster sessions at breaktimes, MFL sold French/Spanish cuisine, including churros, homemade crepes and pain au chocolate and Humanities organised a quiz for tutors based on cultural facts.

The Sixth Form ran henna painting and a team of staff offered hair braiding. All money £516-56 made from these activities will be divided alongside the money donated for the NON-UNIFORM DAY to Harrow Giving and half towards purchasing a new table tennis table for the school as advertised in the original letter home.

The NON-UNIFORM THEME was Dress to represent your culture – see photos to see the sea of colour which greeted us – something to see.
