Ofsted Success!
Posted on: 26/04/2024Hatch End High School are pleased to share with you the Ofsted Report following the ungraded inspection on 28th & 29th February 2024. The inspection outcome confirms that Hatch End remains a good school and the report outlines many of the great things about Hatch End about which we are all proud.
We are particularly pleased that Ofsted have recognised in this report that:
- “the school’s core values of co-operation, ambition, respect and empathy underpin all aspects of school life”
- “the school makes sure all pupils feel included” and “SEND students are well supported”
- “new policies and routines manage pupils’ behaviour successfully”, “extreme behaviour is rare and dealt with very well by the school” and “the school is calm and orderly”
- “the curriculum is well sequenced, ambitious and provides a broad range of subjects”
- “teachers have good subject knowledge....present information to pupils clearly. They model and scaffold concepts to pupils effectively. This enables pupils to produce high-quality work”
- “there is a wide range of enrichment opportunities” and “safeguarding is effective”
The leadership team are always working to improve and develop. Ofsted said that we have very strong plans for improvement and that we are doing all the right things in the right order: “Leaders know the school very well. They have an accurate evaluation of the school's work and well-thought-out plans for further improvements.”
These plans include raising our expectations of the work completed in class by all our students and addressing any misconceptions with students consistently. At the end of the second day, the Lead Inspector gave a detailed debrief to the Senior Leadership Team and Governors. Some of the encouraging feedback that they presented that didn’t make it into the report included that:
- the SEND and HIP (Hearing Impaired) provision is extremely strong and very well led making sure all students receive the support they need and are prepared for the future
- there is a sophisticated approach to reading and interventions for weaker readers are prioritised
- leaders have a clear understanding of where the school is and a clear action plan, the actions are being prioritised well, the right things at the right times
- safeguarding record keeping is excellent, open and transparent; training is excellent and pupils feel safe and protected from harm in this school; the school is tenacious in their approach to getting the support that the students need and deserve
- Art & DT provision is exceptional
- the City Year mentors know the students they were working with well and are building the confidence of students
- there is no evidence of gaming or off rolling and a whole school approach is taken to supporting good attendance for all, which is above national standards
- the programme for pupils' wider development is ambitious, meets all statutory requirements of RSE & Careers and some of this work is particularly impressive
We thank you for your continued support and would like to thank the staff for all their hard work day to day which has been recognised in this report.
