Chess Tournament at Pinner High
Posted on: 17/11/2023On Friday 10th November, Hatch End High School students had the opportunity to participate in a Chess Tournament organised by Pinner High School with the support of Harrow Chess Club. It was a 5-round blitz tournament (a time control for a short game of 5 minutes). This was a fantastic experience for our students, as many of them had never played Chess with students from other schools.
Here are some comments from our students that took part:
“I recently took part in a thrilling chess tournament at Pinner High School, competing against Bentley Wood High School and Pinner High School. The atmosphere was intense, with the sound of chess pieces creating a focused and electric ambiance. The ticking of chess clocks added urgency to each move, heightening the competition. After the games, a buzz of excitement filled the room as players discussed strategies and shared experiences, fostering a sense of camaraderie. Playing against students from different schools not only showcased diverse talents but also created a unique and memorable collective spirit of chess” (Tilak, Year 12)
“Everyone from Hatch End scored at least one point, giving us second place in the school's tournament to the hosts, Pinner High. I won 4 out of my 5 games, losing in my final game which was very close against the winner, Manmay, who I know from Harrow Chess Club.” (Arthur, Year 9)
“Participating in the inter-school Chess Tournament was like diving into a challenging adventure with 35 other players. Each game felt like a Chess battlefield, where we all tried to outsmart each other! Despite the tough competition, I managed to secure 6th place. It was a great experience that not only improved my Chess skills, but also gave me a bunch of memories from the strategic battles on the board.” (Dhanvin, Year 8)
“The tournament was one the most exhilarating times of my life. It was a dream of mine and my peers and I would really wish to do it again.” (Ayaan, Year 7)
“The Chess tournament was a fun experience. It was interesting to play against different people with different moves and tactics. It was a great opportunity to learn new moves, play chess and make new friends!” (Koyari, Year 8)
Hatch End High School were placed second overall and Arthur, our champion at Hatch End, received the Silver medal for individual players. A HUGE well done to all the students who participated in the event. You made the school very proud! We also would like to thank Pinner High School for hosting.
