We Can Be Event
Posted on: 28/04/2023Just before half-term. Hatch End students from Year 10 were invited to London for the event ‘We Can Be’ by the Lord Mayor’s Appeal. We Can Be is an event aimed to change young women’s perceptions and empower them to make informed decisions about their careers, which will make them future-ready by enabling them to see the city as not only a viable, but an exciting career option for them.
Through exposure to and collaboration with participating City businesses, the event We Can Be was an opportunity for our students to realise and refine the skills that they already have, build their confidence, and learn how those skills transfer into the City.
Our journey started at Evelyn Partners, the UK’s leading integrated Wealth Management and Professional Services Group. Students took part in a number of immersive activities and sampled what task they would have to complete if they had an interview at the company. After receiving a free goodie bag, we headed to Bishopsgate for introductory comments by chair Vanessa Sanyauke. The afternoon session involved the students working with a business to manage a portfolio and then the best portfolio was selected as the Winner.
We then had a panel of highly experienced business leaders in London who shared their experiences and advice. The day ended with students given the opportunity to network with other London businesses and make a pledge to be committed. A huge well done to all of our students that participated.
