Posted on: 23/11/2018

At Hatch End High School we have a long tradition of students learning musical instruments and encourage all our students to participate in musical activities. We offer lessons for the following instruments at a highly subsidised rate.

Acoustic Guitar
Oboe
Bass Guitar
Piano/keyboard
Bassoon
Steel Brass
Violin
Cello
Vocal
Drum
Woodwind
Flute

Many of the instruments are in our store cupboard so we can lend them to students when they start lessons to help them get going.

Benefits of learning a Musical Instrument

Research has shown that learning a musical instrument can help with relieving stress, and many studies show a correlation between musical training and academic success. Learning to play an instrument stimulates the brain, improving functions like memory and abstract reasoning skills, which are essential for maths and science. It can also help with confidence issues, improve patience and increase discipline and time management skills. On top of all of that you get the chance to play with other people which is a very fun thing to do!

Fees

The following charges, which are far cheaper than other schools, will apply:

1st Instrument : £60 per term (£30 per half-term)
2nd/subsequent Instrument : £35 per term (£17.50 per half-term)

Students who receive free school meals under the Government’s current scheme receive a 50% discount on all fees and students studying Music at GCSE, AS or A level receive free tuition for one instrument.

There is the option for taster lessons when agreed with the music department which allows student who have never played on instrument before to try it for period of time before committing financially. These are offered to students who have shown commitment and ability within their normal music lessons.
