Boom, Bust & Crunch!
Posted on: 30/04/2018Hatch End pupils become economists for the day at FTI Consulting’s ‘Boom, Bust & Crunch’ programme which helped students make sense of the 2008 financial crisis and its repercussions. Placing financial experts into classrooms to facilitate interactive sessions on the economic trends of the 21st century, FTI Consulting in London helped our Year 10 Mathematicians grasp the basics of economics, to consider the impact that Brexit might have on the future of the UK economy and the affect that this will have in turn on their future.
Using characters and real news stories, students come to understand how the causes and impact of the 2007-8 crisis affected people from all walks of life and, consequently, determine their own attitudes towards finance. Students have especially enjoyed spending time in small groups with FTI’s employees, and teachers have reported that these sessions have improved career aspirations. The session aimed to help young people aged 14-17 understand key economic terms and concepts that they will need to prepare them for the future. In 2016, the programme won Gold at the Corporate Engagement Awards for the Best Educational Programme.
