Celebrating the re-opening of the Great Hall
Posted on: 22/02/2018The audience were buzzing with anticipation - the hall was packed to the rafters - old friends meeting up - some not having seen each other since they left school. Even present were pupils of the school from its early days as Blackwell Secondary Modern. Many staff, whose teaching careers spanned the past 30 years, came back to join in what was clearly going to be a very special occasion in Hatch End High’s history.
The stage was set, and after some words of welcome by the Headteacher, the orchestra transported everyone back with music from the shows performed over the past sixteen years. With some stand-out performances by old students and members of our current Production Society, we celebrated the music from The Wizard of Oz, Les Miserables, Our House, Beauty and the Beast, and lots more.
There were many happy tears shed, as people revelled in a nostalgic evening reconnecting with friends and colleagues. Numerous tributes were paid by guests - one of which typifies the success of the event: “...we would like to thank you and all concerned for the great evening last Friday. We had a lovely day visiting childhood haunts and the evening was wonderful. Our Guide was charming and entertaining - a credit to himself and the school, and the concert was out of this world!”
