Great Hall re-opening by Gareth Thomas MP
Posted on: 22/02/2018Last Friday, HEHS unveiled its ‘new look’ Great Hall at a ceremony packed with students from Years 7 and 8. Gareth Thomas, MP, and former student of our school in the late 70s to early 80s, entertained the audience with reminiscences of his time at the school and performed the official ‘cutting of the ribbon’. Government funding, which will herald our new, partial rebuild has given us the opportunity to completely refurbish our Great Hall. Many Harrow residents will be very familiar with this legendary landmark building and have probably visited to see one of the famous Hatch End High School productions, to see Harrow Young Musicians (also based at the school) or used the facility for a wedding or other social event.
In addition, to celebrate the new-look Great Hall, Hatch End High School organised two performances to mark the past, present and future. The HEHS Production Society, which is in its 30th year, staged a “Night at the Musicals” on Friday, 2nd February 2018, featuring a large number of alumni students performing alongside students from the present Production Society. This was preceded by a Reception for past and present staff to mark the opening.
On Saturday 3rd February, members of the Production Society also welcomed “future performers” by running three free Roald Dahl workshops for local primary schools, finishing with a free “scratch performance” for their friends and families.
