MUSIC
OUR VISION
Music is a world within itself, and a language we want everyone to understand. From when students join us in Year 7, they will be given hands on, practical Music making lessons that will hopefully ignite a passion in a subject, which is a huge part of everyone's daily lives. Across Year 7 and 8, students will get to explore a variety of instruments as they form bands within their class. This will give students the opportunity to perform increasingly more challenging pieces of music with their classmates, whilst also learning some Musical Theory and the context of the songs along the way. Should they decide to choose Music as an option in Key Stage 4, students will study the BTEC Tech Award in Music Practice. This is a very practical course, which will challenge them to become better musicians in three key areas - Performing, Creating and Producing. For Key Stage 5, we make use of our excellent recording facilities to deliver the A Level Music Technology. On this course, students will have the opportunity to record and create using up to date and professional Music industry standard equipment, as well as learning about how Technology and Music have developed to become permanently entwined with each other. Within the Music Department, we have created an almost bespoke pathway to prepare any aspiring young musician, despite what experience they may have before coming to Hatch End, to be ready for the rigours and challenges of the modern Music industry.

Enrichment
We run a number of concerts and events throughout the year where our huge range of ensembles perform. The extracurricular groups on offer include: Soul Band, Rock Band, Concert Band, Saxophone Quartet, Jazz band, String Orchestra, Steel Pans, Junior Choir, Chamber Choir, Senior Choir and Theory Club.
The department is also regularly involved in large musical projects outside of school which have involved us performing at both the Albert Hall and the Camden Roundhouse in recent years. Our current project is with the BBC singers along with a number of other high schools in the Harrow area.
